“Taking Flight” A Benefit Show for Avian Haven
August 5 - August 31
While we are still navigating how to conduct business and host events during this challenging time, we are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to open “Taking Flight” to the public on Wednesday, August 5th. We are closely watching federal and state guidelines and will respond swiftly and appropriately. We may need to present this exhibition online and trust that you will enjoy the efforts of our local talent, nonetheless. Thank you for your understanding!
What is Avian Haven?
Avian Haven is a non-profit organization dedicated to bird rescue and recovery. Since 1999, they have been caring for wild birds at their extensive facilities in Freedom, Maine and operating only on private donations and foundation grants.
Why Avian Haven?
We had an occasion to call on Avian Haven a couple of summers ago when a pair of chimney swifts built a nest in one of our four chimneys. As we would later learn, chimney swifts are an endangered species due to the razing of old homes here, in New England. Anyway, the nest of fledglings failed and fell down into our kitchen chimney, resulting in a call to Avian Haven and an emergency rendezvous with a volunteer on the turnpike who was delivering another bird to the refuge in Freedom, Maine. We were grateful that Avian Haven was responsive, capable and ready to meet our bird emergency. When it came time to schedule our benefit group art shows for 2020, we knew Avian Haven would be on our list.
